Club History
Back in the early 1990’s a group of local business people formed a steering group, it’s objective was to raise funds for the building of an Indoor Bowls Club for the local community that otherwise would have to travel to Plymouth or Torbay to play bowls.
With the help of Sport England, Bowls England and South Hams D.C. the club was finally formed and opened in December 1997 as part of the Quayside Leisure Centre.
Back then the club boasted membership of over 300 but the opening of Plymouth Life Centre and Torquay Indoor Club plus natural wastage the membership numbers reduced.
However, bowlers that left soon found out that in the bigger clubs they became just a number whereas at South Hams we pride ourselves on the camaraderie where bowlers know each other by name, friendships that are maintained through the Club’s Social Nights, friendships built up through League Games, Inter Club Friendly Games, friendships that will last a lifetime.
