How to play bowls

The aim of the game is simple.
​Get your bowls as close as possible to a small white or yellow ball called the 'jack'.
It might sound easy, but the fact that the bowls do not travel in a straight line seriously adds to the tactical challenge.
Bowls can be played indoors or outdoors, and the rules are the same, with top stars from both formats coming together to play lawn bowls at the Commonwealth Games.

​New to the game?

​Anyone who is new to the game can come down to the Kingsbridge leisure centre on a Friday evening at 6pm where we hold a club night for members and newcomers and it finish about 8.15pm then after you are welcome to join us upstairs for a drink from the bar and a talk with the other people

Simple dress codes for New Starters to National Players.

​Obviously you can play bowls in any attire just as long as you have smooth flat soled shoes so not to damage the bowls rink playing surface (tight woven flat carpet material)

• Most people start playing bowls at a social level  just to see if they like it.  Any smart casual clothes are good and this is the norm for our Social Club Night every Friday @ 6:30pm.  
• If you like the game and want to play in Club Leagues or Friendlies, a white shirt can be worn but we prefer and entice you to purchase our colourful club shirts with any smart grey trousers| of your choice (not jeans). Many varieties of comfortable bowls shoes can be purchased too. 
• If you want to progress even further and play County Games then the dress code is club shirt and grey trousers. 
• If you become very good and progress to National Games then its club shirt and white trousers.
